Softball: DCSA Girls Competitive Fastpitch LeagueSoftballThis program offers competitive play for girls interested in participating in traveling fastpitch softball this summer. The season runs from mid-May through late July or early August. Teams typically practice twice per week, depending on coach and field availability, with the possibility of additional practices as determined by individual coaches and field options. Practice dates and times will be set by DCSA in coordination with each team’s coaching staff. Teams in the 10U through high school levels typically play two evening games per week, traditionally on Mondays and Wednesdays. The 8U program generally plays one evening game per week, anticipated to be held on Wednesdays against area communities. Parents are responsible for providing transportation to and from all practices and both home and away games. The Dassel-Cokato Softball Association (DCSA) is committed to the development of girls’ softball within our community, focusing on individual skill improvement and fostering a competitive Dassel-Cokato High School softball program. The number of participants will determine the number of teams formed. This is the only girls softball option available for students in Grades 1 and up. 8 and Under (8U): Minimum Grade 1The focus is on teaching the fundamentals of the game. Players are encouraged to explore all positions on the field. Coaches will make every effort to ensure equal playing time. During games pitching is handled by a mechanical pitching machine, with a coach feeding the machine to ensure consistency and fairness. Coaches will also be on the field during games to provide guidance and instruction. 10 and Under (10U)This level focuses on building fundamental softball skills and understanding the game, with an emphasis on growth and a slight competitive edge in certain situations. Most positions will have equal playing time, and players are encouraged to try various positions on the field, though attendance and discipline may impact playing time. 12 and Under (12U)At this level, players develop position-specific skills while still exploring multiple roles on the field. The focus is on skill development, learning, and fun, with equal playing time. Players continue improving fundamentals and gaining a deeper understanding of the game. Attendance and discipline may affect playing time. 14 and Under (14U)At the 14U and higher levels, players typically have specialized skills in specific positions. Coaches will aim to provide quality playing time for all, but primary position players, especially pitchers and catchers, will generally receive more innings. Advanced instruction will focus on refining fundamentals across all areas of the game. While fair playing time is prioritized during league play, tournament play may result in playing time being influenced by specific game situations. High School (HS)At this level, players receive advanced instruction in all aspects of the game and are expected to show commitment and dedication. The focus is on refining fundamental skills with more detailed coaching. Players will primarily play their main position, with less time in secondary roles. While playing time may not be equal, coaches will prioritize fairness during league play, though tournament play may lead to varying playing time based on game situations. Softball Level Age Calculator: To calculate the appropriate softball level based on the player's age and to ensure they are not too old for a level use this age calculator: https://mnsoftball.com/pages/cms/age-calculator Uniforms: Players are responsible for purchasing their own navy softball pants and white belt and socks (approx. $30-40).
