The robotics season kicks off in December, but students can sharpen their skills over the summer to prepare for next year’s FIRST Robotics competition. Softball Open Training sessionsSoftballJoin your friends in the gym to get a jumpstart on the summer softball season or get some additional reps in to help hone your softball skills. DC Softball Assn. members will be on hand for some basic skill instruction. Players can focus on throwing, catching, fielding, hitting, baserunning and pitching. The batting cage and pitching machine will also be available for use. These sessions are only available for DC softball players who played travel softball last summer or plan to play this upcoming season. Players must sign-in when they arrive and provide their own equipment (glove, bat, balls, helmet) and wear athletic apparel and tennis shoes. This activity is open to all students in grades 7-12 and meets every other Thursday after school in the High School Art Room. Games available include favorites like Magic: The Gathering, RISK, Space Hulk, Dungeons And Dragons, Chess, Uno, Catan, and more. Students are encouraged to bring their own games to share with the group. Bring an after school snack and beverage if you wish. Participation in competitions is optional but requires a $10 fee before competing, which helps fund prizes. Registration is ongoing throughout the school year, so students can join at any time. Volleyball Summer Training & Skills CampVolleyballGet ready for a fun and competitive summer in the gym as we prepare for the upcoming fall volleyball season! This program offers a unique opportunity to refine your skills, learn from top-tier coaches, and elevate your game. Week 1: We’re kicking off summer practice with John Yunkers, Head Coach at Champlin Park High School. John brings a wealth of experience, including two Coach of the Year titles and a history of success at the high school and collegiate levels (D1, D2, and D3). Under his guidance, we’ll focus on serve receive, blocking, and defense—while still covering other key skills. John and the DC coaching staff will work together to ensure a productive and high-energy week. Week 3: Two standout players from St. Cloud State University (D2) will join us to lead specialized blocking training. Sam Zimmerman, a junior middle blocker and Emma Barren, a junior setter, will be our guest coaches. From Weeks 2-5, players will have the chance to: • Develop strong volleyball fundamentals and techniques • Enhance skills, game strategy, and volleyball IQ • Compete and scrimmage in a fun, high-energy environment Middle school and high school athletes will train separately one day per week and come together for combined practices, specialty sessions, and open gym opportunities. The DC coaching staff will be leading instruction throughout the summer. To ensure an effective experience, we need at least 20 players per age group—so gather your teammates and don’t miss out!
