PopularVolleyball: Fall Traveling LeagueVolleyballThis traveling volleyball program is designed for girls entering grades 5 and 6 who are looking for a competitive playing experience in the upcoming fall season. The season runs from late August through the first weekend of November, with teams practicing on weeknights. Games will be held at various locations, including Mound-Westonka, Glencoe-Silver Lake, Waconia, Orono, HLWW, NYA, Annandale, Jordan, Lester Prairie, and Hutchinson. Parents are responsible for transporting their child to and from all games and practices. Throughout the season, participants will have the opportunity to develop fundamental volleyball skills, including serving, passing, setting, attacking, and defense, while gaining valuable competitive experience. Practices: Begin in mid-August and will be held one to two nights per week, depending on gym and coach availability. A full practice calendar will be available later in the summer on the Community Education website at www.isd466.org/community-ed. Game Schedule: Saturdays: September 6, 20, 27, October 4, 11, 25, and November 1. Each team will play two games per league date, and the season will conclude with a tournament—5th graders on October 25 and 6th graders on November 1. Players and their families are also invited to attend Charger Varsity Volleyball’s Youth Night, with free admission to the game (date TBD). Volunteer Coaches Needed! Water Safety Instructor (WSI)AquaticsThe Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Class (WSI) will certify you to teach all levels of Red Cross Swimming lessons to children, adults and individuals with special needs. This 30-hour course will consist of both pool and classroom time. Through video and hands-on skill building, in and out of the water, the Water Safety Instructor course is designed to train instructors to use a variety of teaching strategies, including: class management techniques, lesson planning and execution, observation and assessment, and new tools to be a great instructor. Coursework must be downloaded and viewable on a technology device, brought to class. Additional coursework completed outside of the scheduled sessions will also be required. Participants must be 15 years of age by the final day of the course. A preliminary swimming skills pretest is also required. Please bring a suit, goggles and towel. Minimum 6 students required.Swim Skills Pretest Includes: 25 yards each of: Backstroke, Breaststroke, Freestyle, Elementary Backstroke and Sidestroke 15 yards of Butterfly 1 min. tread water AND 1 min. back floatCourse Dates & Times: PLEASE NOTE- THESE DATES MAY BE CHANGING. Youth Theatre Camp (YTC)Classes/ActivitiesJoin us for a week-long theatre camp where young performers will immerse themselves in the exciting world of acting, guided by the talented FungusAmungus Players! This interactive workshop is designed to help students build confidence, enhance creativity, and develop essential theatre skills in a fun and supportive environment. Through engaging games and hands-on activities, campers will explore stage movement, blocking notation, and script scoring, while also diving into character development, scene creation, dialogue delivery, body language, and storytelling techniques. Led by experienced actors, participants will gain valuable insight into the art of performance, learning to bring stories to life. Rehearsals will take place Monday through Thursday at the Dassel History Center, preparing students for their final dress rehearsal on Friday at the Performing Arts Center. That evening, campers will take the stage for a FREE showcase performance, celebrating their hard work with family, friends, and fellow theatre enthusiasts.
